Efforts diagrams ("Layer cake")

Top  Previous  Next

Depending on what kind of object is selected in the navigation panel the diagram shows either efforts per project (projects), or efforts of  an employee per projects, efforts per milestones, skills, jobs.

Layers

"Layer cake" is made of layers which correspond to the objects of the same level in the navigation panel.

While the mouse is over any layer of the "pie" the tooltip shows the clarifying information.

A. In the navigation panel the first-level object is selected.

The diagram shows efforts for all projects.

Efforts for the hidden objects of the first level are not reported.

Efforts for the inactive objects of the first level (projects, employees) are shown only if the corresponding box (Inactive projects, Inactive employees) in the navigation panel is checked.

B. In the navigation panel a second-level object is selected.

The diagram shows all efforts for the second layer objects within the same parent.

Efforts for the hidden objects of the second level are not shown.

Efforts for the inactive objects of the second level (projects, employees) are shown only if the corresponding box (Inactive projects, Inactive employees) in the navigation panel is checked.

Layer thickness

The thickness of the layer on a specific day is proportional to the workload for either object on that day .

Dips of the diagram profile show that due to some reasons the efforts in this period of time lowered. Particularly, it indicates that during planning the workload was distributed unevenly.

Green line

C. In the diagram for the first-level object a green line is displayed — this is the maximum level of the efforts available. This level is calculated as the total average performance of the employees linked with the objects in the navigation panel which are shown in the diagram as layers.

If the green line is far above the diagram this may mean that information about the projects was not imported/keyed in completely.

If the information is complete and a layer exceeds the green line this means the employees are overloaded; if the diagram is below the green line this means the employees are underrun.

If the diagram is above the green line all along the timeline then the overall workload of the employees exceeds their capabilities.
